Ayanna Charlene Born June 20th in Sacamento, CA
Ayanna is known for her soft and soulful tone. Ayanna is gearing up to release her debut EP. Her sizable fanbase is excited to hear what else she has to offer after getting a taste of her talents from the single “Weekend Rendezvous” produced by the Drumaddicts. It was released on the mixtape hosted by DJ Supe entitled “Misses Ambitious“. With the album expected to be a success and fame imminent, the exciting, newfangled sound that she has made her own is certain to gain interest from across the world.
The development of her unique style is the result of a lifetime of musical influence. Growing up in a talented musical family meant that Ayanna was always surrounded by music. Her father was a full-time keyboardist/ singer with various bands including the very popular “Club Nouveau” and her parents exposed her to a wealth of music as a child, all of which influenced her development.
Her first foray into learning an instrument herself came when she started to play the tenor saxophone at just 12 years old. Later she joined the youth choir at Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Sacramento while she finished high school at VAPAC (Visual and Performing Arts Charter). There she learned the art of dance and opera. It was there, that she developed her musical tastes and interests.
Ayanna started out as a vocalist for hire for various bands in the Sacramento region. It wasn’t until 2012 when she decided to take on a career as an independent recording artist releasing singles like “Love Letter” (prod. by Brocc) and “Weekend Rendezvous” (prod. by Drumaddictz) via CD Baby, Amazon, iTunes, Spotify and more. The release of her music brought about a different sound. A soft and unique voice over deep baselines. She gives off a Mary J. vibe on stage and is an excellent performer. By popular vote, she was nominated and took home 4 Sounds of Soul awards that were presented by Dwight Howard and Michel’le.
She has opened the stage for popular artists such as Dwayne Wiggins from Tony Toni Tone, Suga T, Baby Bash, Maxine Jones from En Vogue, Chante’ Moore, and Johnny Gill. Also, some popular comedians like: Michael Colyar, Cocoa Brown, and Charles Walden.
Ayanna’s unique and captivating writing style landed her an amazing position with a non-profit company called “Performing Arts United”, where she works as an instructor teaching songwriting to the youth.
